THE WORD:  Umma is an Arabic word denoting a “People of Light” with a specific connotation of Unity.  In the ancient Arab world it is often used to refer to a previous Age of equanimity and accord, and a future time when society will again achieve a state of communion together and with the heavens.  Umma is also the name of Lord Shiva’s bride and is known as “the mother of the people”.

In the Hebrew tongue Umma means “a congregation” or “community” and their word for mother is related.

In the Keys of Enoch, Umma is a word used to imply “a dynamic reality of social action” and “the building of a Community of Light on Earth”.

IN RELATIONSHIP TO WHO WE ARE:  For us Umma is an ideal name with which to define, well... our ideal.  Umma is our entire Vision unfolded.  Like Bacon’s “New Atlantis”, an archetypal model for a cosmic and conscious society which offers as its foremost byproduct, Light.  Umma is the goal.

GOING DEEPER:  In the “English Qabalah” system of Gematria, the value of the word Umma is 288.  It shares affinity with words pertaining to the concepts of union, vows, and covenants.  To a more ancient Wisdom Tradition this number is used to signify the law of polarity at work in life through the marriage of Adepts – the summum bonum of marriage, where the qualities of each person are in complete and harmonious compliment.  This is because such a person, alone, is said to be tempered in character and expression by way of having mastered the 12 Labors of the Zodiac Wheel in their combination with the 12 appearances of each Zodiac Sign, thus earning the number of 144.
